Update Dec 1 8:15am
The seven-day incidence of corona infections in the Recklinghausen district increased again, by 7.5%. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) released an incidence value of 243.8 for the district on Thursday, Dec. 1. Wednesday was 226.8. Last Thursday the incidence in the RE district was 224.4. The weekly comparison is therefore negative.
State and national, the incidence value has also increased compared to Wednesday. In NRW, the incidence, which reflects the number of new infections in the past seven days per 100,000 population, was 244.9 on Thursday (previous day: 242.4) – and in the federal government 201.9 (previous day: 196, 7).
However, incidence values should always be viewed with caution: experts assume that a large number of cases are not recorded in the RKI data. One reason: an overloaded reporting and testing system. The fact that some people don’t have their positive self-test or rapid test cleared up with a PCR test could also play a role. So they won’t appear in the stats. Late recordings or transmission problems can also distort the picture. Or the fact that many federal states do not or incompletely report data to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on weekends or public holidays.
When assessing the corona situation, the number of corona patients in the hospital and the occupancy of the intensive care beds are also taken into account. However, the so-called hospitalization incidence is only reported nationwide (see below).

36,115 new corona infections in Germany
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the seven-day national incidence Thursday morning as 201.9. This is evident from the numbers reflecting the RKI dashboard status at 5am. The day before, the value of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 196.7 (previous week: 186.9; previous month: 351.7). However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections. Experts have long assumed there will be a large number of RKI-unrecorded cases, mainly because by far not all infected people have had a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. Furthermore, late registrations and transmission problems can lead to distortions of the individual daily values.
German health authorities recently reported 36,115 new corona infections (previous week: 38,090) and 152 deaths (previous week: 163) to the RKI in one day. Here, too, data comparisons are only possible to a limited extent due to test behavior, late entries and transmission problems. In general, the number of new infections and deaths recorded varies significantly from weekday to weekday, as many federal states do not report them to the RKI, especially on weekends, and report their cases later in the week.
The RKI has counted 36,499,600 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the start of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.
Bavaria has the best incidence value
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the incidence value on Thursday 1 December was 244.9 (previous day: 242.4). Lower Saxony has the highest value among the federal states (385.6), Bavaria the lowest (108.2).
According to the State Health Center (LZG), the incidence of seven-day hospital admissions in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is important for assessing the situation, was 8.11 on Thursday, December 1 (previous day: 7.65) .
