In Schleswig-Holstein, the health authorities reported 115 new corona infections to the state on Thursday (May 20). 40 patients with Covid-19 infection are currently in an intensive care unit.
The current seven-day incidence has continued to decrease in Schleswig-Holstein. According to data from the Kiel Ministry of Health, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week is still below the threshold of 35, and now at 30.3 (previous day: 31.4). The number of people in Schleswig-Holstein who have demonstrably been infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic increased by 115 to 62,233. According to an estimate by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), around 58,200 people from Schleswig-Holstein have recovered. According to the current State registration office statistics there have been 1,573 deaths so far in connection with the viral disease Covid-19 – that is two more than the previous day.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) usually updates its data in the morning, but sometimes not until the afternoon. Due to the delay in reporting, the RKI values usually do not correspond to the infection rate, but are too low. As a second number, we therefore give an estimate of how high the seven-day incidence could be without delay in reporting. This value comes closer to the actual development of the pandemic. Schleswig-Flensburg now has a single-digit incidence value
The state capital Kiel continues to have the highest incidence in Schleswig-Holstein. It is 55.1 (previous day: 51.1). Neumünster is in second place with 47.4 (previous day: 41.1) and Lübeck has the third highest value in Schleswig-Holstein with 43.4 (previous day: 44.8). The Schleswig-Flensburg district has the lowest incidence at 9.9, which is the same as the previous day.

A decision is made on Wednesdays
The state government always decides on Wednesdays on the basis of the incidence values of the counties and urban districts which rules apply in which region. This affects the retail trade, daycare centers and schools. Further easing steps for gastronomy, tourism, sport and culture have been in effect since Monday.
Vaccinations against the coronavirus
People in Schleswig-Holstein have been vaccinated against the coronavirus since December 27, 2020. The vaccination quota shows what percentage of northern Germans have already received the first dose of vaccination.
133 corona patients in clinics
133 people who have tested positive for Corona are currently being treated in the country’s hospitals. That is eleven less than the day before. 40 of the Covid-19 patients are in intensive therapy (-6), 30 patients have to be ventilated (-2).

What these numbers say – and what not
The state government’s statistics show how many confirmed corona infections are known to the authorities in the country and were reported in the intended way. What the statistics cannot clearly show, let alone the current day, is the speed at which the virus is spreading. Because the number of people who have newly tested positive usually also includes post-reported cases from several days. There are delays in the reporting chain, especially around weekends and public holidays.
