So far, corona tests at Schleswig-Holstein’s schools have been voluntary – that will change after the Easter break. Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) announced on Wednesday afternoon that in future everyone who is present in schools will be obliged to test.
According to Education Minister Karin Prien, schools will offer two self-tests per week after the Easter break. In Schleswig-Holstein after Easter, all teachers, students and school staff must regularly undergo mandatory corona tests for face-to-face teaching. The schools have already been informed. One thing is clear: “Without a negative test, there is no face-to-face teaching,” says Prien.
Those who cannot take part in the on-site tests can also present a medical test certificate or a certificate from a citizen test center or a pharmacy, explained Prien. The tests are planned until the summer vacation. With the obligation to test, the state government is implementing a resolution of the Prime Minister’s Conference, which sees it as an important component in the fight against the corona pandemic.
127,000 voluntary tests to date
According to Minister Prien, around 150,000 students attended face-to-face classes and 100,000 alternated classes at the general education schools in the state. Since March 22nd, they have been able to be tested for the corona virus voluntarily. A total of 127,362 tests were used. In 78 cases there was a positive result – that was 0.06 percent of the tests. Teachers and school employees could have themselves tested in pharmacies, family doctors or the test centers of the Red Cross.
Please spend your holidays at home
For the Easter break, which is now starting, the minister appealed not to travel. The Easter days should be spent with as little contact as possible with others, especially in closed rooms. The CDU politician sees the vacation as an opportunity to reduce the number of infections in the country for two and a half weeks.
