What are the new rules like?
The health ministers want to ensure that in the event of a corona case, the whole class no longer has to be quarantined – only the people sitting next to them. They should then be able to test themselves after five days – according to the Bavarian Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) with a PCR– or rapid antigen test. The other students in the class should continue to attend the class and “For a certain period of time” be tested more intensively. An exception is also planned for vaccinated and convalescent people, they should generally no longer go into quarantine.
Appropriate ventilation, mask and test concepts in schools are a prerequisite for the new regulation. In day-care centers, too, there should be the opportunity to be free-tested after five days of quarantine. The health authorities should use these rules as “Guard rails” and can also decide differently in individual cases. It is not yet clear when exactly the new rules will apply.
What kind of reactions are there?
The state chairman of the Association for Education and Upbringing NRW, Stefan Behlau, welcomes the new regulation in principle because “finally there is an agreement nationwide”. The regulation comes very late. It remains to be seen whether it can also be implemented in the schools. In NRW The rules should have been simpler so far, but that didn’t work in the implementation.
The Federal Association of Pediatricians has criticized the fact that the new regulation no longer applies to the entire class, but still applies to people sitting next to infected people: “We think it makes much more sense to only send the infected child into quarantine”said association spokesman Jakob Maske der Welt. Children would suffer from quarantine even after five days.
What has happened so far if a student’s corona test is positive?
So far, that depends very much on the federal state in which the lessons take place. In Baden-Württemberg, only those schoolchildren who can be proven to be infected have to be quarantined at home. All other classmates are tested daily for five days and for the same period all students in the class or group concerned may only be taught in this group.
