It was to be expected and yet the extent tops all previous party nights: All of Munich became a party mile – despite the current Corona rules. The police were on duty all the time.
Munich – A public holiday the next day meant full streets and squares in the state capital on mild summer evenings even before Corona. But the pent-up party spirit of the people of Munich seems to be discharging on these first really warm evenings of this infinitely long Corona year. On the night of Corpus Christi (Thursday, June 3), the outdoor party in the entire city of Munich * reached a preliminary climax.
Much to the annoyance of the Munich police. Because the officials – whether they want to or not – must ensure that the applicable Corona * regulations, including all restrictions on freedom, are complied with. The more people in a place, the more alcohol at that, the more difficult this task becomes, and it becomes impossible.
For the most part, according to the Munich police *, there were smaller gatherings with around ten to 30 people, which, however, regularly aroused the resentment of the residents because they were celebrating. With music from portable boxes, with alcohol and with loud voices. However, there were also some party hotspots. An overview of the corona police operations on Thursday night.
Wedekindplatz: 150 people drink alcohol despite the ban and do not keep their distances
Around 11 p.m. there were around 150 people at Wedekindplatz *, some of whom consumed alcoholic beverages despite the existing ban and who violated the applicable hygiene regulations by not keeping the necessary distances from one another. The police asked the celebrants to vacate the square. All people complied with these requests without any complaints, so that at about 11.45 p.m. there were no more people at Wedekindplatz.
Odeonsplatz: 250 Munich residents in a party mood at the entrance to the Hofgarten
According to officials, the 250 or so celebrants at Odeonsplatz * were “partly heavily drunk”, probably also because of the later hour, it was already around 1:45 a.m. when the police arrived and intervened. Here, too, it was much too loud and of course there weren’t many corona intervals between the individual groups. And here things didn’t go as smoothly as before at Wedekindplatz. The police had to “use direct force in the form of pushing and pushing in a total of 150 cases”.
A total of four arrests were carried out during the police operation on Odeonsplatz, which ended at 3:30 a.m., eleven reports were made in accordance with the Infection Protection Ordinance and six reports of insults to police officers.
Ludwigstrasse: 100 party people from Munich on the steps of the church
In the Ludwigstrasse area, on the steps of the Ludwigkirche there, around 12:45 a.m., around 100 people were there, consumed alcohol, did not adhere to the prescribed hygiene distances and, in some cases, listened to loud music. Due to the fact that the people at this location were initially also unwilling to respond to the police’s requests to leave the stairs at the Ludwigkirche on their own, the emergency services used direct force in the form of pushing and pushing in about 50 cases. The police operation ended around 1:45 a.m. after everyone present had completely removed.
As far as the police are not concerned, but which is clearly visible to all morning strollers: The party columns also leave a considerable amount of garbage.
