Corona in Lower Saxony: Fixed price for FFP2 masks? | NDR.de – Nachrichten – Lower Saxony

Status: January 21, 2021 6:41 p.m.

The tightening of the mask requirement decided by the federal and state governments has led to a discussion in Lower Saxony about fair prices for so-called FFP2 masks.

The general practitioner association is demanding a set price to prevent exorbitant prices for FFP2 and medical surgical masks. The association has a price of one to two euros per FFP2 mask, as reported by NDR 1 Lower Saxony. They are not worth more, said Jens Wagenknecht from the general practitioner association. In the end, that was also the price on the Internet. However, individual orders have already been canceled – probably in order to charge higher prices.

Pharmacies adjusted to increased demand

The president of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Pharmacists, Cathrin Burs, from Braunschweig says that this is how it works in a market economy system – supply and demand determine the price. In the pharmacies, however, the prices are currently stable, she says. According to her, the pharmacies in the country are prepared for the increased demand and have had good stocks. Bottlenecks are not to be feared, so Burs. At their summit, the federal and state governments agreed on tightening the mask requirement – for example, only medical or FFP2 masks may be worn when shopping or in local public transport.

Apparently no panic buying so far

“If now – we have 350,000 to 400,000 customer contacts per day in Lower Saxony – all of them came at once, it would be a challenge,” says the head of the Chamber of Pharmacists. However, the population has learned to deal with the situation, in any case one does not notice panic. However, the demand has already increased. Customers wanted to stock up and protect themselves, says Burs.
