From next Friday, almost everything that has been corona-closed in Denmark will reopen. Night anglers and dance lions must, however, be patient for a while longer.
– From 21 May, nightclubs and discos will be closed. Everything else will be open in one form or another, says the Conservatives’ party leader Søren Pape Poulsen after the Danish parties in the Folketing on Tuesday night agreed on the next reopening phase.
In comparison, we in Norway are still at stage 1 of the reopening, despite lower infection rates than in Denmark: In the last 14 days, Norway has about half the infection pressure of Denmark, measured per capita.
Denmark opens even more
More at school and at work
Pupils in upper secondary school and upper secondary school can return in full, while it is gradually opened up for attendance at workplaces. It happens in three phases. Initially, 20 percent attendance is allowed. Then 50 percent in mid-June and finally full attendance from August 1.
Coronapass – but not for long
On Friday you can also visit saunas, water parks, playgrounds, casinos and indoor facilities in zoos.
To be admitted, you must show a corona passport that confirms that you have been fully vaccinated, have recovered from corona infection or have recently tested negative.
But coronapass is soon on its way out, along with bandage requirements, as more Danes are vaccinated. Politicians agree to cancel the passports already in June, while the bandage requirement can be removed at the end of August. No exact date has been set yet.
The parties have previously agreed that the limit for how many people can gather indoors will be raised from 25 to 50 on Friday. Outdoors, the limit is raised from 75 to 100 people.
Considering new travel exceptions
Has tools
Minister of Health Magnus Heunicke says the infection situation in the country is positive, despite somewhat more cases of infection in recent days. He believes the situation is good enough that the whole country can now move towards full reopening.
– This can only be done if we keep basic structures such as extensive testing and local shutdowns. Those tools ensure that we can now open further, he says.
What about Norwegian reopening?
As is well known, Norway will gradually reopen society in stages, and it has been said several times by government officials that stage two will be completed in the second half of May. In Oslo, step two can be introduced on 27 May.
In the article below you can read more about what step two entails.
