Kretschmer as well as Wolfram Günther (47, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen) and Martin Dulig (46, SPD) spoke at a special press conference on Tuesday afternoon about new and significantly stricter measures that will apply to Saxony from Monday, December 14, 2020 (midnight) should.
The background to this is the continued high number of infections in the Free State. The country must be brought to rest, said the Prime Minister in the course of the press conference. Further restrictions are to be expected. These should be decided on Friday.
Schools, kindergartens and after-school care centers will be closed from Monday, December 14th.
In order to break the infection process, all shops, with the exception of those for daily use, will also be closed from Monday.
The corresponding government measures are to apply until January 10th.
“The situation in the hospitals is extremely dangerous in many places,” said the MP, who pointed out that even now some patients have to be moved for lack of beds.

Coronavirus in Saxony: Further restrictions in the fight against the pandemic
“The virus has a stronger force than in spring,” said the Prime Minister at the beginning of the press conference. For this purpose, he presented two charts that showed the infection numbers.
“Today we have reached the limit of our capacity. It’s about nothing less than life and death,” said Dulig. He strongly criticized the “irrationality of a few”.
But what do the stricter rules mean for Christmas?
The number of people who will be allowed to meet at the festival will be set at ten.
However, only in the period from December 23rd (12pm) to December 27th (12pm).

Public consumption of alcohol should also be prohibited, sports halls should be closed. There should also be a mask requirement in public spaces. Access to old people’s and nursing homes will only be possible with coronavirus rapid tests.
“Meetings are still possible. But you can’t just march off, you have to have a concept that takes into account the location of the meeting. There will be an exception catalog for an incidence of 300 or more,” continues Dulig.

Coronavirus in Saxony: hairdressers remain open, daycare emergency concept is being worked out
Dulig also promised the hairdressers that they could continue to work. Beverage shops, pharmacies, drugstores, banks, savings banks, dry cleaners, newspaper sales, post offices and petrol stations will also remain open in Saxony. The sale of Christmas trees is still possible.
Günther also said when asked that an emergency concept for daycare centers should be worked out in the next few days. According to Dulig, the controls of the measures “in public places and in retail” are to be tightened.
Nonetheless, he also made it clear once again that the final decision would not be made until Friday.
Prime Minister Kretschmer also responded to questions about possible curfews. “This has to be discussed in the next few days. Because exit restrictions no longer work alone.”
With regard to the upcoming Christmas shopping, Dulig “expects a great challenge. We have to expect a high rush. Therefore our request: Behave sensibly – and: Support the Saxon retail trade.”
“Refueling, shopping in the neighboring country is not a reason, it ends in quarantine,” added Kretschmer with reference to trips across the borders to the Czech Republic and Poland. The commuter traffic for workers “who work on one side, live on the other” remains possible without quarantine.
