According to this graph, the number of deaths per week in Austria in the first half of December is more than 50 percent above the average for 2015 to 2019. In the USA and Sweden, however, it is “only” just under 20 percent. In Norway, however, the number of deaths is even below average.
The data comparison lasts until mid-December because complete comparative data from the various countries are only available up to this period.
Also the European mortality monitoring Euromomo Austria shows a “very high excess mortality” in the calendar weeks 47 to 50.
As early as November, data from Statistics Austria showed that the second wave of Covid infections in Austria triggered a high level of excess mortality for the first time in years.
