Despite the tough federal-state resolutions to continue the corona lockdown, Schleswig-Holstein’s state capital, Kiel, wants to try to move towards normalcy.
Kiel’s Lord Mayor Ulf Kämpfer (SPD) is sticking to the idea of testing in model projects how far steps are possible out of the state of emergency corona. That means: swimming lessons in the leisure pool, soccer games with fans or theater performances with spectators – everything is controlled, accompanied with quick tests and secured by contact tracking. These prerequisites are given, said fighters in an interview with NDR Schleswig-Holstein.
Fighter: A bit of normalcy in the crisis
According to Kampf, concepts are needed that regulate certain things. “You have to think about it: When do we actually stop? What has to go wrong in order for something like this to be broken off? And how do you monitor it scientifically?” Talks are already being held with the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. “We will certainly speak to the hospitals as well,” he adds, “that after maybe two weeks you look: Is anyone infected, has someone gotten sick?” They want to learn something from such projects, so that everyday models can then be turned bit by bit from model projects. “So that we all, and we hope so very much, can get a little bit of normalcy back in the crisis,” says Kämper.

Günther: From April 12, model regions with further relaxation
According to Kampf, the time before Easter should now be used to create concepts. There has already been an exchange with Health Minister Heiner Garg (FDP). Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) spoke on Tuesday in his press conference on the decisions of the federal-state meeting also of model regions that should be there after Easter. First of all, public and private life nationwide would be reduced even further in order to reduce the incidences as far as possible.
Then, for the time after Easter – from April 12th – Günther announced that in selected regions and accompanied with a thorough test procedure, opening steps in accommodation establishments, in outdoor catering and in sport would be implemented. Condition: a seven-day incidence below 100. The model regions should be decided by the beginning of next week at the latest, said the Prime Minister.
Greens and FDP advocate model region
Green parliamentary group leader Eka von Kalben and FDP parliamentary group leader Christopher Vogt also rely on setting up a corona model region after Easter. In areas with particularly low infection levels, tests should make things easier – not just in tourism, but also in culture, said Kalben. Vogt could imagine Kiel and the west coast as possible model regions for easing.
