The nursing and home care organizations in North and Central Limburg are going to open a corona department for elderly people with dementia in Venlo.

The organizations want to use the department from next Wednesday to be prepared for possible further increasing infections.
Venlo
The corona department is an initiative of nursing and care homes and home care organizations Proteion, Land van Horne and De Zorggroep. In recent weeks, the organizations have looked at quickly setting up a space for the rising number of corona patients in the region. This location was found at the Integral Expertise Center for Psychogeriatrics (IEP) in Venlo. The IEP is located in the same building as the VieCuri hospital.
Reception option
According to the organizations, previous waves of contamination have shown that a reception facility may be urgently needed for clients who can go home or cannot be admitted to a nursing home because of an infection. “In addition, the hospitals can be relieved because there is a better flow for their patients.”

At the IEP in Venlo, GGZ organization Vincent van Gogh and De Zorggroep are already working together on care for the elderly with dementia and misunderstood behaviour. “Because the employees at the IEP already have expertise in the care of elderly people with dementia, this location has been found suitable to receive this specific group of corona patients.”
The organizations emphasize that the department will remain separate from other departments in the hospital in order to “avoid cross-contamination”. Locks are also being set up for corona-infected clients and for employees and suppliers.
Regular locations
Clients currently residing at the IEP will be transferred to other regular locations. From November 10, the IEP will then be used as a corona department. A spokesperson could not say how many people can be accommodated in the corona department.
