Due to the increasing corona infections in the North and Central Limburg region, Nursing and Care Homes and Home Care Organizations (VVT) Proteion, Land van Horne and De Zorggroep are setting up a corona department as a precaution. From November 10, the Integral Expertise Center for Psychogeriatrics (IEP) in Venlo will be made available for clients with a corona infection from the North and Central Limburg region.
In recent weeks, the VVT organizations have been thinking about quickly setting up space for the increasing number of corona patients in the region. Together with the mental health care organization Vincent van Gogh, part of VIGO, De Zorggroep has developed plans to realize this corona department within the IEP Venlo for people with dementia who are infected with the corona virus.
It has been established from previous waves of contamination that such a reception facility may be urgently needed for clients who are temporarily unable to go home or who cannot be admitted to a nursing home due to an infection. By opening this department in time, the organizations are well prepared if the infections continue to increase. In addition, the hospitals can be relieved because there is a better flow for their patients.
Within the IEP in Venlo, which is located in the VieCuri Medical Center, the mental health organization Vincent van Gogh and De Zorggroep usually work together on care for the elderly with dementia and misunderstood behaviour. Because the employees at the IEP already have expertise in the care of elderly people with dementia, this location has been found suitable to receive this specific group of corona patients.
The corona department is separated from other care departments in the hospital to prevent cross-contamination. Locks are also being set up for corona-infected clients and for employees and suppliers.
Clients who are currently staying at the IEP in Venlo will be admitted more quickly at regular locations, if they would go there at all, or they will be accommodated at the IEP in Venray. The corona department will be available from Wednesday 10 November.
