Corona crisis: Court overturns Easter travel ban for residents of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Free travel: residents of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can now go on day trips to the Baltic Sea islands, the coast and the lake district over Easter.

The administrative district court of Greifswald surprisingly overturned the travel ban ordered by the state government in two urgent proceedings on Thursday. Paragraph 4a of the corresponding ordinance was suspended until a decision was taken in the main, the court said.

Accordingly, from Good Friday to Easter Monday, trips to the Baltic Sea islands, to the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, in communities directly on the Baltic Sea and Bodden waters and to tourism centers in the Mecklenburg Lake District were prohibited for residents of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The government wanted to force the implementation of the contact restrictions, especially over the holidays. (Read more about restrictions on Easter here.)

Tourists from other federal states have been banned from entering Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since mid-March and will remain so until at least April 19. This includes a ban on the use of holiday apartments that serve as a second home for foreigners.
