The calls for stricter corona measures are getting louder. Contact restrictions for vaccinated people are required.

Berlin – At the Corona summit, the federal and state governments decided on new corona rules for Germany. In view of the high number of new infections with Sars-CoV-2, those responsible received applause. Experts from virology, however, did not go far enough.* Similar voices are now being heard from politics. They are demanding even stricter Corona * measures.

In particular, Ralph Brinkhaus, leader of the Union parliamentary group in the Bundestag, commented on this. “In areas with high incidences, you also have to think about temporary contact restrictions for vaccinated people,” he told the newspapers of the Funke media group. There should be “no taboos” in hotspots, according to Brinkhaus with regard to the rules in schools. Of course, the education ministers must strive to keep the schools open with measures such as the obligation to wear masks, corona tests and ventilation concepts. However, the resolutions of the Corona summit were not sufficient to break the fourth wave, Brinkhaus said in an interview.

Parts of Brinkhaus’ proposal have already been approved by the federal and state governments. At private meetings, there are relatively weak contact restrictions for vaccinated people: Indoors, the number of people is capped at 50, provided that only vaccinated people actually participate. Apparently this was too lax a measure for Brinkhaus.

Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil brought new contact restrictions for vaccinated people into play at Christmas. “Numerous family contacts” would “according to all experience again cause a number of infections,” Weil told the daily newspaper Welt. A New Year’s rest is a real option.

Volker Wissing, FDP* politician and designated Federal Minister of Transport, also mentioned contact restrictions for vaccinated people as a corona measure – and advised against traveling at Christmas. “Winter will be more dramatic than winter 2020. We must not take Corona lightly,” Wissing told the Bild newspaper. Spending Christmas in a smaller circle makes sense given the current number of corona cases*.

On Thursday (December 8th, 2021) there will be another corona summit or a conference of prime ministers (MPK). This will be followed by the first consultation with Olaf Scholz*, who is expected to be elected the new Chancellor on Wednesday. At the MPK, among other things, the New Year’s rest should be discussed. “In the end, it depends on the development of the infection process and the situation in the intensive care units,” emphasized Weil.
