The number of real estate foreclosures in Schleswig-Holstein fell significantly in the past year – to a low. This is reported by the real estate owner association Haus und Grund.
The association refers to its own query at the regional courts. According to this, there were almost 600 applications for foreclosure sales last year, over 100 fewer than a year earlier. According to the association, the 2020 value is the lowest since these values were first recorded. Ten years ago the value was more than 2,100.

Real estate finds buyers quickly
Haus und Grund assumes that people who had payment problems in the past year were able to sell their property beforehand. Banks did not have to file foreclosure applications. They are accommodated by the demand for real estate, which, according to the house and property, remains high despite or even because of Corona.
People want to service loans faster
And the consumer advice center also reports that there is currently no increased need for advice on the subject of foreclosures. The topic is rather the opposite: Because interest rates have been falling significantly for several years, according to a spokesman, many people even want to pay off their loans faster and are more likely to seek advice.
More bankruptcies in the first months of 2021
Nevertheless, many people have economic problems: More and more companies and private individuals in Schleswig-Holstein are over-indebted, reports the credit reporting agency Creditreform. According to this, the number of corporate and personal bankruptcies in Schleswig-Holstein increased in the past six months compared to the same period in 2020.
Ten percent more companies become insolvent
In the first half of this year, 330 companies in Schleswig-Holstein filed for bankruptcy – around ten percent more than a year ago. This number was even clearer in the case of private bankruptcies: More than 2,100 households submitted corresponding applications – that is almost 65 percent more than a year ago.
More personal bankruptcies – probably also because of a change in the law
According to a spokesman for Creditreform, this has to do with a change in insolvency law, which has brought significant relief for private individuals: the so-called residual debt discharge – i.e. the point in time at which one is considered debt-free again – now comes after three years instead of six . According to the Creditreform spokesman, this has led to a veritable breach of the dam in the bankruptcy applications.
