Short-time work is at a record high, the tourism group Tui is cutting thousands of jobs and the fear of unemployment is also growing in South Baden. In the middle of the Corona crisis, the Freiburg employment agency, whose district also includes the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen districts, has a new boss: Andreas Finke, previously head of the Lörrach employment agency, replaces Christian Ramm. The Badische Zeitung spoke to both.
BZ: Mr. Ramm, when you took over the management of the Freiburg employment agency in May 2013, the unemployment rate in South Baden was already low. Since then it has continued to decline – then came Corona. Are you happy to retire now?
Ramm: No, that has nothing to do with it. I had known for a long time when I would leave the BA. Now it is unfortunately difficult for me to say goodbye to my 800 colleagues, and I am also unable to realize my travel plans for the time being. Nevertheless, we are labor administrators in a very privileged situation. We are not short-time workers, on the contrary, we have a lot to do and do not have to worry whether we get our money every month.

BZ: Many things are different, they are worried about their job or their existence because of the corona crisis. Are the golden years on the job market over?
Ramm: If we knew that … I personally assume that the job market will pick up again in 2021. The demographic development helps here.
