The Covid-19 crisis team of the Science City Darmstadt, in its meeting on Wednesday, August 25, continued to strengthen itself, among other things, with the status of the installation of air filters in schools and daycare centers and again with the development of the current both Hesse and Darmstadt increasing numbers of infections.
As the health department announced, 27 laboratory-confirmed cases of Covid-19 were added for the science city Darmstadt for Wednesday, so that a cumulative 6245 laboratory-confirmed cases are now registered in Darmstadt. The health department considers 6080 of them to have recovered. The incidence continues to climb to 63.8.
For the first time in a long time, there was also a death related to Covid-19. It was a 63-year-old man from Darmstadt with previous illnesses who had not been vaccinated. “That is very regrettable,” explains Mayor Jochen Partsch, “but the case unfortunately shows once again how important vaccination is in order to protect yourself from the serious effects of an infection and, in the worst case, death. All citizens for whom there is a vaccination offer, but who have not yet accepted it, should be aware of this. “
In the past 33rd calendar week, a total of 86 new cases were counted in Darmstadt. Of these, five cases were in the group of 60 to 80 year olds, 23 cases in the group of 35 to 50 year olds, 49 cases in the group of 15 to 35 year olds, and six cases in the group of five to 35 year olds Ten year olds and three cases in children under five.
With the increasing incidence, the numbers continue to rise in the Darmstadt clinics. So far, the situation has been kept stable by relocating to less severely affected Hessian clinics, as the Darmstadt Clinic informs, but a trend is clearly recognizable here, which could also mean consequences for non-Covid patients again, since the seriously ill Covid – Tie up appropriate capacities for patients. “The numbers show a clear increase here,” explains OB Partsch. “A few weeks ago the number of Covid patients in the clinics was single-digit, now we have double-digit numbers again, despite relocations, and the trend is rising. This is not good. It is therefore absolutely important to continue to act sensibly and prudently and, above all, to get vaccinated! “
There are 12 (4) patients with Covid-19 in the Darmstadt Clinic, 2 (2) in the Elisabethenstift and 2 (0) in the Alice Hospital in the normal and intensive care unit. There is a patient in the children’s clinics. The increase is also noticeable in the emergency services. Last weekend, the fire brigade reported eight trips with confirmed or suspected Covid cases.
The vaccination center currently carries out around 400 to 450 vaccinations per day. On a weekly average, this still means around 3000 vaccinations. The number of vaccinations can be kept stable through numerous special campaigns, such as vaccinations for children and adolescents, neighborhood vaccinations, or the upcoming joint vaccination campaign with SV Darmstadt 98.
At the end of today’s meeting, the crisis team dealt with the status of the installation of air filters in schools and daycare centers. In summary, this is on a very good path. According to the city’s real estate management, the focus for the installation is on the group of people for whom there is no vaccination offer yet, i.e. the under-twelve-year-olds. New or renovated schools and daycare centers have ventilation systems as standard. In addition to mobile devices, stationary systems in particular will be installed in numerous schools and day-care centers in the coming weeks. 50 such devices have already been purchased, and 110 more are to follow. In addition, there will be CO2 traffic lights at the transition. Further details will be given at a press conference tomorrow, Thursday.
