Corona Cases in India Rise Again, The Threat of a New Wave is More Real

Jakarta

India reported highest case record COVID-19 in the last two months. The local government is concerned that the spike in cases will occur again amid face-to-face schools that are reopening.

Some of the new cases were reported from the Kerala region, India. The densely populated city hosts a big festival attended by a number of family gatherings and other social activities.

Nearly 70 per cent of the 47,092 new cases reported in India last Thursday were in Kerala. A third of the deaths were also contributed from the region.

“With cases rising in Kerala, adequate measures must be taken to contain the spread of COVID-19 between regions,” Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in a statement after speaking with his state counterparts in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, which borders Kerala.

Vaccination rates have increased dramatically as the supply of COVID-19 vaccines continues to grow. More than two thirds of Indians already have antibodies COVID-19 Through natural infection, experts predict the nationwide spike in cases will be no deadlier than it was in April and May when oxygen supplies were limited, and tens of thousands of people died as a result of running out of beds.

A recent un-peer-reviewed study conducted in Kerala showed that a single dose of AstraZeneca vaccine produced 30 times more antibodies in previously infected people than fully vaccinated people who had never contracted the virus.

“A well-managed vaccination program, together with immunity or antibodies from natural infections we see today, makes a massive third wave unlikely,” said clinical immunologist and rheumatologist Padmanabha Shenoy, who led the study and referred to immunity from natural infections. and one dose of vaccine.

The Indian government, however, has warned that as in Kerala, the rest of India could also see an increase in infections COVID-19 around the festival season starting this month and ending in early November.

India has so far reported about 32.9 million infections, the most in the world after the United States. Deaths rose by 509 cases on Thursday to a total of 439,529, which experts say is a very small number.
