The number of confirmed cases of the Corona virus emerging in Argentina exceeded five thousand on Tuesday, according to the daily report of the Ministry of Health, but it is still far below the level reached by its neighbors Chile, Brazil and Peru.
The ministry said confirmed cases of Covid-19 disease caused by the virus rose by 134 to 5020, while the number of deaths increased to 264 from 260 in the report released on Monday evening. Peru recorded a much higher number of confirmed cases, exceeding 50,000 on Tuesday.
Argentina has succeeded in slowing the rise in new infections by imposing strict public isolation measures nationwide that allow residents of large cities to leave their homes except for necessary work or emergencies or the purchase of groceries and family supplies.
Some of the smaller urban centers have eased some restrictions but are still under quarantine imposed across the country until at least May 10.
