Corona Case Continues to Rise, The Peak Not Yet Visible

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Indonesian Public Health Expert Association (IAKMI) Board of Experts Hermawan Saputra said it was difficult to see the peak of the pandemic corona virus (Covid-19) in Indonesia. He said the positive cases of Covid-19 had indeed continued to grow, but the peak of the case had not yet been seen.

“The position (position of the corona virus) in Indonesia is still difficult because we are still in the first wave, think of it as a curve. This position continues to climb but not yet seen its peak, because its position is still rising slowly,” Hermawan said in Secret at Newsroom CNNIndonesia.com, Thursday (7/23).

Hermawan said there were two indicators that must be considered in analyzing the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. First, policies that limit population mobility. Then the second pattern of community behavior.

However, he said, the two indicators were not fulfilled, making the pandemic peak estimate difficult. Plus the application of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) is actually relaxed.

“Let’s see what the restriction policy is. PSBB is actually relaxed. Whereas PSBB can effectively curb the spread of the corona virus,” Hermawan said.

Not only that, Hermawan stated that the government’s decision to stop broadcasting the development of daily cases through live broadcasts or television could have an impact on people’s behavior that ignores health protocols.

According to him, the characteristics of Indonesian people are more inclined to listen, listen or watch rather than read and find out information. He worried that the community would be minimal or completely unaware of the current condition of the development of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“If there is open communication, the community is open and understands the situation, then complying with the protocol will be easy,” he said.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) predicted that the peak of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia would occur in August to September 2020. The estimate refers to the cumulative number of positive cases of Covid-19 that continues to surge.

The State Intelligence Agency (BIN) also predicted that the peak of the coorna virus pandemic occurred at the end of June to July 2020. BIN predicted that in July 2020 the corona virus positive case would reach 106,287 cases.

Until yesterday, Thursday (7/23), the cumulative number of positive cases of corona virus in Indonesia reached 93,657 people. Of that number, 52,164 people were declared cured and 4,576 others died.

East Java has the most positive cases with 19,450 people. Then the next position is DKI Jakarta with 18,068 people, South Sulawesi 8,527 people, Central Java 8,021 people, and West Java 5,824 people.
