Corona: Bundesliga barometer on quarantine training camps, penalties

The Corona appointment chaos, which has dominated the 2nd Bundesliga for weeks, has also reached the Bundesliga after the two-week quarantine for Hertha BSC.

Initially, the DFL had only made the 36 professional clubs aware of the threatening situation in a fire letter. Ultimately, the DFL decided on the so-called quarantine training camp for the clubs in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. From May 12th, all 36 professional clubs will go into isolation for the last two match days. This is to ensure that the current season can end by May 22nd or 23rd.

According to a representative online survey for the Bundesliga barometer, in which a total of 5,406 people took part, 68.2 percent of the fans surveyed consider this arrangement to be sensible. (Bundesliga: results and schedule)

Bundesliga should not be interrupted – fans agree

84.3 percent of the participants also spoke out against a general interruption of the Bundesliga season due to the current situation. (Bundesliga: The table)

However, there are also differences of opinion among the fans about the DFL’s corona measures. About half (52.4 percent) think it is correct that the DFL reserves the right to assess canceled games due to positive corona cases due to grossly negligent violations of the hygiene concept against the team responsible.

Almost half of the respondents (45.4 percent) believe that the players and Bundesliga clubs are too careless with the Corona situation. This is certainly one of the reasons why the majority (81.1 percent) would like a regular, neutral and external review of compliance with hygiene requirements and concepts.

The majority of fans do not see the clubs’ existence threatened

Although the German clubs are demonstrably struggling with the effects of the corona pandemic, only 37.5 percent of fans see the existence of their respective club as endangered by the current situation.

There has been a slight change in the level of acceptance among those interested in football regarding the implementation of ghost games. 78.5 percent described the fact that no viewers are currently admitted as understandable and correct. For comparison: In November 2020 this approval was still at 64.9 percent.

The proportion of those who have meanwhile only got used to ghost games and football on television has remained virtually unchanged. 39.8 percent of the participants stated this in the current survey, in November it was 39.3 percent.
