Corona: British mutation apparently detected in MV | NDR.de – news

Status: 01/29/2021 5:20 a.m.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania there are indications of the British Corona mutation B.1.1.7 for the first time. According to the Ministry of Health, there are twelve positive laboratory results nationwide.

In order to confirm the mutations, the laboratory samples outside of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are again examined more closely using so-called full sequencing. When the results will be available is open. The British corona mutation is considered to be significantly more contagious than the previously known corona virus. Seven of the references to the mutation come from the district of Northwest Mecklenburg, three relate to Ludwigslust-Parchim and two from the district of Rostock. “It is therefore clear that our state will probably not be spared the mutations,” said Health Minister Harry Glawe (CDU).

The vaccine apparently also works against mutation

Glawe emphasized that the findings so far would suggest that the approved corona vaccines are effective against this virus variant. With viruses, random changes in the genetic material, called mutations, occur constantly. Some give the pathogen advantages – for example by making it easier to transmit. The State Office for Health and Social Affairs reported 242 new corona infections for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania within the last 24 hours on Thursday. It also registered 14 other deaths. The seven-day incidence rate decreased to 98.3 across the country.
