What used to be a joke now has an economic impact. Corona, one of the most popular beers in the world, suffers particularly from the confusion between its name and that of the coronavirus, as several indicators show.
According to YouGov, online searches for “corona beer virus” or “beer coronavirus” have exploded in recent weeks. And buying intentions among American adults plunged to its lowest level in two years, still according to statistics compiled by YouGov. However, it should be noted that beer is considered a summer drink and that the time of year is not conducive to sales.

And the problem seems to be getting worse. This week, shares of Constellation Brands, which markets the Corona, fell 8% in New York.
“We think consumers understand that there is no link between the virus and our business,” was forced to tell Business Insider Maggie Bowman, director of communications at Constellation Brands.
Corona beer takes its name from the Latin word meaning “crown”, the beer being named after the solar crown.
