Corona – – Balances on a knife edge

Friday night could Hallingdølen report that Hol municipality sounded the alarm, after several had tested positive for covid-19 after returning home from the mountains.

In the municipality’s status report for infection control, it was revealed on Friday that there had been no positive tests in the last week.

“But the figures do not reflect the situation,” wrote municipal chief physician Silje Aasheim Koldal.

Here she stated that there is a “significant risk of infection” in the municipality. Mayor Petter Rukke was able to tell Dagbladet that the municipality had carried out a lot of infection testing in the past week, and that they were eagerly awaiting results that were expected on Friday night and Saturday.

– Lucky this round

On Saturday night, Rukke tells Dagbladet that they have received answers to most of the tests.

– There have been negative tests all the way, he says, and says that they are still waiting for three tests.

The mayor further says that he is not so stressed for the remaining tests, as the quick tests were negative.

– In summary, I feel that we have been lucky this round, as it looks now. You never know, but it looks much better today than yesterday, says Rukke and adds:

– I’m calmer today, but still on guard.

Two weeks of winter vacation are soon over for the cottage municipality. The mayor estimates that there are still around 20,000 people in the municipality, which has 4,500 inhabitants.

– If this continues into the weekend and the week to come, I look brighter at Easter, he says about the negative tests, he says.

– Worried

– Have you learned any lessons from the winter holiday weeks, now that you are looking forward to Easter?

– We think the most important thing is to get good information out to everyone. I do not think anyone wants there to be an outbreak. If people follow the advice and recommendations at all times, then I look relatively bright on Easter. But I am worried about the development in Oslo and Viken. You see how little it takes, says Rukke.

According to the mayor, they get a lot of questions about whether there will be a cabin ban again, but he emphasizes that they are “in a completely different situation in terms of emergency preparedness now”, than when the controversial cabin ban was introduced on 19 March last year.

– The most important thing is to take it easy and wait until you get an answer to the test, and that it is negative, before you leave. It looks like it has gone well this time as well, but we are balancing on a knife edge, he says.

Taken quarantine at cabin

On Friday, Rukke told Dagbladet that in addition to cabin guests who tested positive after returning home, it has also been challenging that visitors have been quarantined or waiting quarantined at the cabin.

Cabin guests have also used testing in the cabin municipality.

– But it was a huge burden on our testers, also in relation to the fact that there are a number of other types of injuries when people come to the mountains and ski, said the mayor.

The mayor said that they have also had “a very few cases” of people who have traveled to Hol, who have been infected and have perceived that they could be in the cabin in isolation.

– Some have interpreted the rules on isolation in their own unit. The cottage is a separate unit. It is a very big challenge when they come, said Rukke.
