Corona: Baden-Württemberg lifts the general ban on alcohol in public spaces

Since December there has been a general ban on drinking and serving alcohol in public in Baden-Württemberg. From January 27th, this rule is no longer valid, as can be seen from the new Corona regulation published on the state website.

Walks with mulled wine are allowed again

The new regulation now states that the consumption and serving of alcohol will continue to be prohibited on “traffic and meeting areas specified by the responsible authorities in inner cities or other public places where people are either confined or not only temporarily.” For example, a walk through the forest with beer or mulled wine is allowed again from Wednesday, January 27th.

Only in closed containers

Furthermore, according to the regulation, the sale of alcohol is only allowed in closed containers – dispensing mulled wine by the cup from a stand would therefore continue to be prohibited.

The background to the change is likely to be a judgment from Bavaria: Here a court recently assessed the general ban on alcohol as illegitimate within the meaning of the Infection Protection Act. The Free State then changed the ordinance, similar to Baden-Württemberg.
