In large parts of the north, there are now even stricter corona restrictions. But the rules are not the same everywhere: NDR.de gives an overview of the rules in Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hamburg.
The rules in Lower Saxony
For the period up to January 15, a Christmas and New Year’s rest was decided. The 2G plus rule applies to all sporting events in Lower Saxony – regardless of whether they take place indoors or outdoors.
This means that only vaccinated or recovered people are allowed who can also show a current negative corona test. The obligation does not apply if each person has an area of ten square meters available. Boosted people and those who have recovered from a breakthrough infection are generally exempt from the obligation to test. You are required to wear an FFP2 mask indoors and outdoors, except when you are doing sports yourself.
The federal-state summit decided to change the rules for quarantine and isolation. That could help many leagues to keep the game going. more

Events are still allowed in Lower Saxony, but in front of a maximum of 500 spectators. If the stadium or hall is only used to capacity up to 70 percent, the test does not apply. However, the distance rules and the obligation to wear an FFP2 mask always apply.
The rules in Schleswig-Holstein
Further tightening will not apply in Schleswig-Holstein until Wednesday – then organized sport (training rooms and sports halls) and fitness studios will also be affected by 2G-Plus. Seated events may continue to take place, but are limited to 500 participants.
Because clubs and the operators of fitness studios fear that members and customers might shy away from the additional effort, there are considerations to offer test options on site.
The sports clubs and studios in Schleswig-Holstein fear high costs and few visitors under the 2G-Plus regulation. more

The rules in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, all cultural and leisure facilities have been closed again. This also applies to sport, for example swimming pools and fun pools, which are no longer allowed to open to normal public traffic. Swimming courses and swimming lessons are still allowed, however. Club sports may also continue to be used if the exercise groups are closed. Fitness studios will remain open, but will have to switch to the 2G plus rule.
There is good news and bad news for competitive sports. The good one: You can continue to play. The bad: No matter whether inside or outside – spectators are no longer allowed anywhere.
The rules in Hamburg
In the Hanseatic city are the 2G rules have been replaced almost everywhere by 2G-Plus – also in sports. The exceptions due to booster vaccinations or the convalescence status after a breakthrough vaccination apply as in the other federal states. For outdoor sports, the 2G model can be retained if there is 2.5 meters of space around all participants. This distance rule does not apply to 2G-Plus.
The Senate is reacting to the high corona incidence in the Hanseatic city. There are also further restrictions in the professional sector. more

Events in front of an audience are still allowed: Outside in front of 1,000 fans, inside in front of 200. The situation is different for so-called “national major events” (i.e. in professional sport), where spectators are now prohibited. This is why HSV and FC St. Pauli, for example, have to play ghost games with immediate effect. The same applies to the handball players of HSV Hamburg and the basketball players of the Hamburg Towers.
In view of the increasing numbers of Omikron, the federal and state governments have adjusted the measures again. What’s new? What applies in Northern Germany? more
