Mihambo had brought the infection with her from her European Championship triumph in Rome; in Paris, despite the weakening, she missed her second Olympic victory by only 13 centimetres.
Mihambo explains decision: “My body needs rest”
“In consultation with my doctors, I have decided to end the season early. My body needs rest so that I can soon return to training full of energy and strength,” said Mihambo.
She will therefore not start at the ISTAF in Berlin on Sunday, but will still open the fan zone in the Olympic Stadium.
