Corona numbers at Sauerland schools are increasing, but most cases have a different origin.
Corona cases at schools in the Sauerland contribute to the rising corona numbers, but are not the main reason for this. According to the district, cases in schools have made up about 12 percent of the new cases in the HSK since school started last week. A total of 30 students and teachers at the HSK have tested positive since then. Nevertheless, the increasing numbers are probably also related to the end of the holiday: The majority of the new infections recently were found among travelers returning.
Many Sauerland students in quarantine
However, the quarantine numbers are particularly high. Almost 250 students and teachers were isolated during this time – even though the country relaxed quarantine regulations. The reason for this is, for example, school trips where the students were not only in contact with the people sitting next to them. Even if the students within a class did not only have contact with the people sitting next to them, for example during the break, and did not wear a mask, for example while eating, entire classes can be sent to quarantine. If students come into contact with other classes within the schools, this also leads to more quarantine orders.
HSK appeals to careless parents
The district appeals to parents in the HSK not to send their children to school with cold symptoms. Corona infections are repeatedly found in children who are sent to school despite clear symptoms. The corona numbers in the HSK have generally risen recently. There are currently 339 infected people in total (as of 08/27/21, 9 a.m.).
