Corona admission ticket for short stay • Shortage in hospitals growing due to pandemic

The education union Teachers in Action (LIA) believes that the Christmas holidays should start a week earlier in primary schools. That is also the advice of the Outbreak Management Team, but the cabinet does not want to act on it yet.

The situation in many primary schools is dire, says LIA: teachers and students are absent due to illness, and many people have to quarantine. This creates new learning gaps. “We end up in a vicious circle,” said the union.

According to the union, primary schools should take matters into their own hands to make the working environment safer. This means that schools that are now in trouble will have to close their doors themselves. LIA argues that distance education should be provided in the week before the Christmas holidays.

A poll by the PO Council shows that 55 percent of school boards are against such an early closure. The PO Council, which represents the interests of primary schools and (secondary) special education, wants to clarity of the cabinet about the possible closure of schools.
