In the corona pandemic, parents left their children at home for days as a precaution. These days will show up as excused absenteeism on the testimonial. Parents protest.
Thorsten Muschinski from the state parents’ council of the community schools is upset. It’s about the upcoming certificates that Schleswig-Holstein’s students will receive in two and a half weeks. In some references there will probably be more excused absenteeism than usual. Reason: Parents temporarily did not send their children to school during the corona pandemic – for safety reasons, for example because the children have a previous illness. In these cases, the children learned from home while the other children had classroom instruction. The hours missed in school are noted as excused absence in the certificates – with the exception of the diplomas. But precisely with the certificates before that, the students would apply, says Muschinski and fears disadvantages for the young people.

Ministry of Education is working on a solution
The Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Education refers to the certificate ordinance. There it is regulated that it must be entered if pupils have missed classroom lessons – even if they are missing with an apology. Parents representative Muschinski demands that the country adjust the certificate regulation. At the request of NDR Schleswig-Holstein, the Ministry of Education said that a solution was being worked on. Previously, the Kieler Nachrichten reported about the anger about absenteeism.
