During the corona pandemic, the number of mini-jobs in the Braunschweig-Wolfsburg region fell by 7.5 percent and thus decreased significantly. A total of around 8,000 jobs on a 450-euro basis were lost in the region within two years, according to the Food-Genuss-Gaststätten (NGG) trade union, citing figures from the Federal Employment Agency. In mid-2021 there were still around 104,000 mini-jobs in the region. The hospitality industry is particularly affected. 3,300 mini-jobs were lost there in the same period – a slump of around 20 percent. In Braunschweig, 2,000 mini-jobs were lost during the pandemic. In the district of Göttingen with the university town of Göttingen there were 2,300, in Wolfsburg almost 1,000.
