Corona – 1,753 new infections in Austria

With 1,753 new infections, the lowest number since December 27 of the previous year was reported in Austria on Monday. On Monday a week ago there were 2,658 new cases. The seven-day incidence fell to 223.1. There are currently 582 people in the hospital with or because of Corona, 52 fewer than the day before. Of these, 52 are being looked after in intensive care units, seven more since yesterday, but ten fewer within a week.

When it came to new infections, Vienna was at the top with 656, followed by Lower Austria with 391 and Upper Austria with 184. They were followed by Styria (124), Salzburg (115), Carinthia (94), Tyrol (83), Vorarlberg (67) and that Burgenland (39).

43,273 active cases are down 2,439 from the day before. Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 4,235,183 confirmed cases in Austria. 4,173,311 have recovered, with 3,940 in the past 24 hours.

In the case of the number of deaths, 250 are due to a late report by the federal states as part of the data comparison with the cause of death statistics from Statistics Austria. A total of 18,599 Austrians died from or with Covid-19. However, even before today’s update, the AGES dashboard showed 19,865 deaths related to the pandemic, a difference of 1,266 to the figures from the ministries.

It is therefore still unclear exactly how many people have died in Austria since the beginning of the pandemic. About a month ago, the Ministry of Health reported thousands of Covid deaths. You haven’t quite gotten your way through the federal state figures yet. Carinthia, Salzburg, Styria and Vienna reported deaths in April, and on Monday the data from Lower Austria was added, while the other federal states are still missing the ministry data.

A total of 39,817 tests were registered in the past 24 hours, including 36,347 meaningful PCR tests with a positive rate of 4.8 percent. 88 vaccinations were carried out on Sunday. This means that 5,955,637 people and thus 66.3 percent of Austrians have valid vaccination protection.
