Corning Makes Gorilla Glass for Mobile Phone Cameras, the First Samsung to Adopt? : Okezone techno

JAKARTA– Glass and ceramics manufacturer, Corning introduces two new types Gorilla Glass with DX and DX+ technology. This technology will later focus on the glass that covers the smartphone camera lens.

The new product is also said to improve the optical performance of cell phone cameras. As known, Gorilla Glass so far it only protects the screen from scratches.

“This new technology promises 98% light capture,” Corning said Tech Radar, Friday (27/7/2021).

Actually, Gorilla Glass with DX isn’t just glass and it’s nothing new. Gorilla Glass with DX is a composite material and was first used in 2018 in the Samsung Galaxy Watch but, at the time, the technology had not been refined specifically for camera applications.

To do this, Corning had to overcome the problem of mating the scratch resistance and durability of its glass composites, while not negatively impacting their optical performance.

While increased scratch resistance usually results in less clear optics, so does the scratch itself, so this new technology is a two-way solution to ensure higher image quality for smartphones.

Further in Corning’s announcement, the company stated, “Samsung will be the first customer to adopt Gorilla Glass DX product for camera lens covers”.

However, there is no elaboration in the post on specific devices, or any mention of when the first DX product will be available in the market.
