Katelyn Collins and Eoghan Hawkes, a couple from County Cork, Ireland, recently celebrated thier wedding, a joyous occasion marking the culmination of a decade-long romance. Their love story began in 2012 during their secondary school years.
“We were on a school trip too the Gaeltacht in Dingle when we had our first kiss, and a few days later Eoghan asked me to be his girlfriend,” Katelyn fondly recalled.
Their engagement was equally romantic. Eoghan proposed during the pandemic at the picturesque Mullinhassig Waterfall. “When Eoghan first got his car when he was 19, this is where we would go all the time, we just love it there so much. It was absolutely lashing so we were stood under a tree near the waterfall, and before I knew it Eoghan was down on one knee asking me to marry him. Of course it was a definite yes,” Katelyn shared.
The couple purchased their first home in Aherla in June 2022, adding a furry member to their family that Christmas – their dog, Harley. Their wedding, held on August 2nd at st. Joseph’s Church in Cloughduv, was officiated by Fr. Ben Hodnet. The ceremony was surrounded by loved ones,including both families.
“We had the most amazing day. We were especially grateful to have my grandmother and grandfather with us on our big day,” Katelyn expressed.
The wedding party included Katelyn’s sisters, Shauna (maid of honor) and clodagh, as well as Eoghan’s sister Bronagh and Katelyn’s best friend Jade as bridesmaids. Eoghan’s brother Kieran served as best man, with his brothers Steven and Cian, and best friend Shane as groomsmen. Adding a touch of youthful charm, Eoghan’s niece Mia was the flower girl, and Katelyn’s cousin Ian served as the page boy. ”We had the most vital people to help us as flower girl and page boy. Eoghan’s niece Mia was our stunning flower girl and my cousin Ian was our handsome page boy,” Katelyn noted.
Katelyn’s stunning gown was from Brides of Éire in Clonakilty, while the suits were from Suits Distributors. The bridesmaids’ dresses came from JJ’s House, and the flower girl and page boy outfits were from Next. The reception, a joyous celebration, took place at the elegant Trident Hotel in Kinsale.
