Headline: Peigín Crowley Champions Sleep Health for Women’s Well-Being
In a world that often prioritizes hustle over health, Peigín Crowley, founder of the global luxury spa brand Ground, is on a mission to get women to prioritize sleep. A mother of two and an acclaimed entrepreneur, Peigín believes that sleep is essential for body repair and mental reset. She emphasizes that our daytime activities significantly influence the quality of our nighttime rest. “You have to seduce sleep in,” she advises, reinforcing the importance of nurturing one’s sleep practices.
Understanding the Sleep-Wellness Connection
Peigín’s insights into achieving better sleep resonate deeply with both her personal experiences and her professional expertise. She encourages women to cultivate evening rituals that facilitate a restful night, recommending simple practices such as:
- Taking a warm bath before bed to lower body temperature.
- Maximizing exposure to early daylight to regulate circadian rhythms.
Peigín herself embodies these principles; she aims to be in bed by 9:30 PM to ensure a good night’s rest, rising early to tackle her day with vigor. "Generally, I’m up by 6 AM, and I could have a full day’s work done by 11 AM! All my energy is in the morning,” she explains. By prioritizing sleep, she advocates for women to place “just being” on their to-do list, emphasizing that self-care is a non-negotiable aspect of a longevity-focused lifestyle.
A Journey Born From Adversity
Peigín’s journey into the wellness industry took a significant turn during the pandemic when her spa projects were put on hold. At the age of 42, she faced her own health challenges, including anxiety and digestive issues stemming from peri-menopause. This period of introspection prompted her to seek knowledge and self-educate her way towards creating Ground. “The result was Ground, which is all about finding that inner balance and building resilience,” she shares, noting that her brand launched at a time when the emphasis on mental health was crucial.
Ground’s products are designed with an emphasis on inclusivity and efficacy, benefiting individuals from various backgrounds, including those undergoing cancer treatment. Peigín is a strong proponent of training therapists to be equipped to handle clients facing health challenges, particularly those who have often been excluded from traditional spa offerings due to insurance restrictions.
Addressing Injustice in Wellness
Peigín recalls the countless cancer patients turned away from spas despite having doctor’s notes. “They were being excluded because of insurance reasons, so we had to right that,” she states. In response, she has developed the Barróg line of dermatologically-tested products aimed at providing comfort to cancer patients. These products—translated as “the hug” in Irish—reflect her commitment to promoting self-care during vulnerable times.
A Holistic Approach to Health
Peigín’s philosophy extends beyond sleep and spa treatments; she advocates for an overarching awareness of health that encompasses diet, movement, and emotional well-being. "We need to be thinking about health span rather than life span," she asserts, stressing the importance of daily habits that promote longevity. This holistic approach encompasses recognizing burnout as a red flag while promoting resilience as a "green flag" in daily life.
Understanding gut health is another area Peigín prioritizes. She describes the gut as our "being" brain, intricately linked to our overall health and capable of influencing mental clarity and physical wellness. “We need to listen and honor our gut; it has a deep connection to our body and health,” she advises.
Ground’s Sustainable Future
The commitment to wellness and inclusivity isn’t only evident in the products but also in the success of Ground itself. Founded in Cork, Ireland, the brand has made significant strides, supported by substantial investments from Quintas Capital and Enterprise Ireland. “We’ve got strong ambition and commitment; we’re building the team,” Peigín elaborates, revealing plans to expand into international markets, including the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Despite these achievements, Peigín maintains a refreshing sense of humility and humor. “Ground is still very much regarded as a start-up. Even if at times I feel elderly!” she jokes, demonstrating her approachable demeanor and genuine passion for the well-being of others.
As awareness around women’s health continues to grow, Peigín Crowley’s message serves as an important reminder of the significant role sleep plays in overall wellness. By integrating self-care routines into our lives, we can improve not only our night’s sleep but our days as well.
