An Independent councillor in Cork has raised concerns about the lack of ticket agents available at the city’s bus station, particularly for elderly bus users who are not internet-savvy. The councillor received a complaint from a senior citizen who was unable to use her free travel pass as there was no physical person at the bus station to assist her. She was told to ask a passing member of the public to book a ticket online, which left her without a seat on the bus. Bus Éireann apologised for the poor service and explained that free travel-pass users can book a ticket online or use in-station ticket-vending machines, with staff available to assist if needed. Advance booking is recommended for busy times or for those travelling to the airport. For passengers who book their seat on Expressway services in advance, Bus Éireann has posted a short, step-by-step video on Youtube. Bus Éireann customer-care agents are available to explain to customers how to make an online booking seven days a week.
