It’s no wonder that the Corinthians women’s team is known as the “Brabas”. The black and white girls made history again on Saturday night, the 21st, they defeated Palmeiras 1-0, at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium, in Cali, Colombia, and won their fourth Women’s Libertadores championship.

With the title, Corinthians surpasses São José and becomes the team with the most continental achievements. The team has won four of the last six editions (2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023).

The match marked the farewell of coach Arthur Elias, who was dividing his attention between Corinthians and the Brazilian Women’s Team, but will now dedicate himself exclusively to the national team. In seven years, the coach led the club in 327 games and won 16 titles.

The game

The classic in Cali delivered everything you expect from a Derby rivalry: good football, nervousness and emotion. Corinthians had possession of the ball and applied pressure from the first minutes, while Palmeiras defended and exploited counterattacks.

In the 13th minute, Gabi Portilho was brought down in the area. From the kick, Victória Albuquerque hit Amanda Souza’s post. Despite the error, Corinthians continued to attack and opened the scoring with Millene in the 29th minute after a cross from Gabi Portilho.

In the 2nd half, Palmeiras pressed in search of a draw. However, Ricardo Belli’s team stopped in Lelê. The Corinthians goalkeeper became a wall and made great saves to keep the goal zero. And when the ball passed Lelê, Andressa Pereira appeared to clear Lais Estevam’s shot over the line in the 50th minute.
