Corinthians’ strategies to guarantee Giuliano and Renato Augusto

O Corinthians announced this Friday morning the hiring of Giuliano. Free on the market, the attacking midfielder agreed to sign a contract valid for three seasons (until December 2023), with a salary below only three leaders of the current squad: Cássio, Fagner and Gil.

At 31, the experienced player recently split with Istanbul Basaksehir, from Turkey, and I also had concrete conversations with Grêmio and Internacional. The old desire to play for Timão ended up weighing on the decision.

Despite the financial effort, the agreement to have Giuliano Jorge will not make Renato Augusto’s negotiation unfeasible. The Corinthians board also put on the table a long-term deal for the 33-year-old midfielder, who, in turn, accepted the conditions but is still working to get rid of China’s Beijing Guoan.

The strategy to repatriate the former shirt 8 alvinegro is, above all, the immediate arrival. Internally, however, the directors are already discussing the possibility of closing a pre-contract now, avoiding future competition and thus guaranteeing the economic rights of the player from January 2022 – it is contractually bound to the Chinese until December 2021.

While running to secure Giuliano and Renato Augusto, Corinthians is finally also studying the acquisition – possibly by loan with a purchase option – of a striker, preferably with international experience.
