Timão, at first, did not have Soteldo on the agenda. The business is now seen as a market opportunity.
The Venezuelan was well evaluated by Cifut and could cost less than Corinthians thought. The history of indiscipline weighed heavily, but Timão gathered good references about the second half of Santos’ number 10.
Corinthians’ idea would be to assume Santos’ debt with Tigres (MEX): around R$15 million. The amount would be paid in installments and would not weigh on Timão’s coffers. Santos bought Soteldo for R$20 million in four installments and only paid the first.
Santos would like more money in addition to the transfer of money agreed with Tigres, but the drop to Series B means Peixe needs to readjust its budget. And goalkeeper Ivan is viewed favorably in light of João Paulo’s likely departure.
The negotiation, then, is on. but still far from an outcome. Elected presidents Augusto Melo, from Corinthians, and Marcelo Teixeira, from Santos, will have new rounds of conversations in the coming days.
