Corinthians agrees to sell Gabriel Pereira to the US team

O Corinthians announced today that it has agreed the sale of attacking midfielder Gabriel Pereira to New York City, from the United States, a club belonging to the City Group.

According to the UOL Esporte, the deal was signed at US$ 5.5 million (R$ 28.2 million at the current price). The Parque São Jorge club also guarantees a percentage in the event of a future sale, which ranges from 10% to 20%. The values ​​were not confirmed by Corinthians or by Gabriel Pereira’s representatives.

With the sale, Corinthians pockets 70% of the amounts involved in the negotiation, something around R$ 19.7 million, and will close its second major transaction this season after Ederson’s departure to Salernitana, in Italy – the club sold the player for approximately 6.5 million euros (R$ 39 million) and pocketed 70% of this amount.

Formed in the club’s youth categories, Gabriel Pereira was integrated into the main team in 2020 under the command of Tiago Nunes. After ups and downs, the attacking midfielder established himself in the team last season with coach Sylvinho. He was a protagonist in some games of the Brasileirão last season and aroused the interest of clubs in England, Spain and Portugal. For Timão, he played in 47 games and scored two goals.

In recent days, with the progress of negotiations with the City Group, GP had not even participated in tactical training led by coach Vítor Pereira, although he was carrying out normal schedule with the rest of the squad.
