The tournament’s top six defeated the tenth-seeded Czech Karolína Muchová in two sets 6:4 and 7:5 in the semifinals. In the fight for the title, she will meet the winner of the match between home Madison Keys and the second-seeded Belarusian Arina Sobolenko.
The opening semi-final duel had to be interrupted for approximately 50 minutes due to the protest of climate activists.
Four people disrupted the match at the beginning of the second set at 1:0 for the nineteen-year-old American. They were sitting in the upper part of the bleachers wearing T-shirts that said “end fossil fuels”, one of them sticking his bare feet on the concrete.
That is also why it took so long for the organizers to take him out of the stadium and the duel could continue. Both tennis players went from the court to the interior of the stadium during the break.

The first semi-final got off to a better start for the home player, who took advantage of her opponent’s nervousness and many mistakes. She took her serve in the second and sixth games and quickly led 5:1.
The 27-year-old Czech got up at the end of the set, won three games in a row and reached 4:5. However, Gaufová played a clean game and took the lead.
The long break at the beginning of the second set suited Muchová better, who improved especially on her serve and was a more balanced opponent.

In the eighth game, she lost her serve, but then she broke Gauffova when she averted the match point, and with her serve she leveled at 5:5. Everything was decided by the long twelfth game, in which the Czech player could not hold her serve. She averted four more match points, but not the sixth and lost 4:6, 5:7.
For the young American, it was the eleventh victory in the series and 17 of the past 18 matches. During this streak, she won tournaments in Washington and Cincinnati, where she also defeated Muchová in the final. Now he is fighting for the biggest success in his career.
“I grew up watching this tournament, so it means a lot to me that I advanced to the finals. I have something to celebrate. But the work is not done yet, so I hope you will support me in the final as well,” she said on the court after the match.
Gauff is the first American teenager to reach the final since Serena Williams in 2001.
