The strange situation surrounding Corey Perry has come to an end. Chicago placed the experienced forward on the waiver list. It means only one thing, namely the termination of his contract.
“Following an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in unacceptable conduct that violates the terms of his standard player contract as well as Blackhawks internal rules designed to promote a professional and safe work environment,” the club said in a statement.
“For this reason, Corey Perry was unconditionally eliminated. In the event that he clears waivers, we intend to terminate his contract with immediate effect,” the club added.
Perry, 38, signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the team on June 30.
After four goals and nine points in 16 games, Perry sat out last Wednesday in Columbus under mysterious circumstances.
On Saturday, general manager Kyle Davidson said the forward would be out of the team for the foreseeable future, while agent Pat Morris issued a statement saying Perry was out due to personal matters, while also asking for privacy.
“Following an internal investigation, the Chicago Blackhawks have determined that Corey Perry has engaged in unacceptable conduct that is in violation of the terms of his standard player contract as well as internal Blackhawks rules.”
There has been much speculation overseas about the reasons. The main thing that filled the pages of the tabloids was supposed to be the affair with Connor Bedard’s mother. However, none of the journalists close to the team supported or confirmed the news.
Until one of the parties speaks more specifically, fans will have to be content with the reasoning Chicago issued in its statement.
