Corendon Refuses to Deliver Evacuated Holidaymakers’ Baggage: De Volkskrant Report

That writes de Volkskrant Today. Holidaymakers can collect their bags in Brussels. According to travel industry organization ANVR, travel organization Corendon is not legally obliged to provide home delivery.

Among the victims are tourists who had just been dropped off on Rhodes by the tour company; ten minutes later they had to flee from the fire.

Corendon says in an e-mail to the holidaymakers in question that they are not responsible for the suitcases that are still on Rhodes. However, due to the ‘exceptional circumstances’, the organization says it has looked at ways to get the luggage to the Netherlands after all.

At their own expense

Travelers now have the choice to collect their bags from the airport in Brussels at their own expense, or to return their luggage themselves. Those who choose to collect the luggage in Brussels must sign a statement from Corendon in which they release the organization from responsibility for possible damage or loss.

According to the conditions signed by the tourists, Corendon may opt for this solution. The travelers are of the opinion that Corendon should have acted earlier by giving them better information about the situation on Rhodes, and moreover should not have dropped them off close to the fire.
