Córdoba was elected chairman of the UNESCO Argentine Learning Cities Network at the IV annual meeting, which took place in the city of Firmat, Santa Fe.

Mayor Daniel Passerini was present at the reference that places the Capital of the Province as a director for the period 2024/2025.

The decision was made at the Network Assembly, which included representatives from cities across the country such as Concepción del Uruguay, La Matanza, San Justo, José C. Paz, Tafí Viejo, Villa María, Salta and the person -host Firmat involved.

In his speech, the president said: “Today education calls us, a commitment that coincides with a time where national politics considers the obvious. For cities and regions it is not a matter of debate: public education is the best way to guarantee the future. “

“From Córdoba we are going to take advantage of the opportunity that UNESCO gives us to make it obvious that we are an enthusiastic city. “We don’t talk about education, we do it for education,” the president said.

Regarding national politics, Passerini concluded: “Argentine society knows that access to education is the only effective path to progress. We must talk about an effective State but not an absent state, an economic year cannot close with people outside, and there cannot be a fiscal surplus if there is a social deficit.”

The mayor of San Justo (Santa Fe), Nicolás Cuesta, presented the leadership of the Network to the first president of the city of Córdoba.

Currently, the network consists of 356 cities from around the world that collaborate to spread knowledge and create learning opportunities. Córdoba joined the network earlier this year, and now Ensenada, Malabrigo, Rosario and Santa Fe are joining the network.

This important role will allow Córdoba to lead collaborative actions between member cities in the 2024/2025 period to promote learning as a key tool for economic, social and cultural growth.

The event will include various presentations on fundamental topics for local development, such as “Learning and economic development” and “Internationalization of local governments: challenges and opportunities.”

In addition, the cities that were present spoke about the importance of education in economic and social development, securing a place for reflection and exchange of ideas.

In its application, the city is committed to creating spaces for the exchange of experiences and educational, cultural and social initiatives, promoting inclusion policies, environmental care and public works.

It will also promote a culture of lifelong learning in member cities and their associated cities, encouraging participation in the various programs offered by the network.

Finally, it will define annual lines of work for the Network, focusing on strengthening education and sustainable local development.

The event included the participation of the coordinator of the Network of World Education Cities, Raúl Vidal; the mayor of Firmat, Leonel Maximiliano; the mayor of San Justo, Nicolás Cuesta; and representatives of the member cities.

The Secretary of Education, Alicia La Terza, was with the mayor; and Undersecretary of Social, Scientific and Technological Education, Eugenia Rotondi.
