Coperni at Disney, a fairy tale parade

Once upon a time, there were two young men full of promise, a princess named Kylie Jenner and a parade in an enchanted setting. As in the stories, Parisian fashion week ends with a “happy ending”. At nightfall, the creators of the Coperni brand, Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer, invited celebrities, buyers and journalists to join them at Disneyland Paris for the first fashion show ever to take place in the amusement park.

Greeted by Mickey, Donald, Chip and Dale, even the most ruthless fashion editors can’t suppress a smile. The selfie session in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle has a cartoonish feel. Lena Situations gives an interview to Loïc Prigent, Paris Jackson ventures barefoot into the crowd. Mica Arganaraz, Amelia Gray, Irina Shayk and Lila Moss are there to make you dream in front of the legendary candy pink palace, the most popular top models of the moment, with the fascinating Kylie Jenner as the highlight. The American influencer closes the show under fireworks.

With its spray dress sprayed on Bella Hadid’s body, the brand had simply “broken the Internet”

This is a first for the amusement park inaugurated in 1992, in Marne-la-Vallée. Surprised and happy that neither Karl Lagerfeld at the time of the spectacular shows at Chanel nor any major house before them had set their sights on this place, Sébastien and Arnaud have put tenfold energy into putting together this childhood dream. They tell the beginnings of this adventure that began a year and a half ago with Disney. “At first, we were a little scared. Coperni is a company with thirty employees and barely ten years old. Our first exchanges on Teams were surreal, there were three of us facing fifty people, but they were quickly convinced. »

Skilled in creating photogenic events adapted to the format of social networks, this is not the first time this has been done for the tandem. “Arnaud and Sébastien have always dazzled us with the presentation concepts of their shows,” explains Lucien Pages, the most powerful press officer in the industry, who has been with them since their beginnings. They are launching us into crazy projects… but we know that these will mark fashion history! »

As evidenced by the famous dress in spray, sprayed in the middle of their fashion show in September 2022 at Arts et Métiers on the body of Bella Hadid, produced in collaboration with a Spanish scientist, Manel Torres. A crucial moment for the brand that quite simply “broke the Internet”. The following season, the models interact with the poetic robot dogs from Boston Dynamics. “They understand their times, know the power of image and buzz and know how to calibrate it with very well executed collections,” analyzes Lucien.

Originally from the South, Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant met on the benches of a fashion school. Arnaud studies marketing and Sébastien design. Very quickly, they founded their label, called Coperni, a reference to Copernicus the Polish astronomer who broke the doxa by first highlighting the fact that the earth revolves around the sun. Revolutionary in every sense of the word… And a reference that says a lot about their state of mind.

As a couple on stage and in the city, Arnaud Vaillant and Sébastien Meyer reconcile passion and entrepreneurship

The duo won the prize for the first Andam collections in 2014. Two years later, they did not hesitate to put their brand on hold and withdraw from the LVMH prize, to take over the artistic direction of the Courrèges house until in 2017. This stay in the French house taught them one thing: independence is crazy freedom. As a couple on stage and in the city, they reconcile passion and entrepreneurship. “We have the chance to love and respect each other. I see the value of Sébastien’s crazy ideas. What matters to us; it’s about creating desire and taking risks,” explains Arnaud.

These two geeks don’t hesitate to search the Internet to find the start-up that will help them give an experimental tone to their collections. Their ultra-cutting-edge and discreet innovations are shaping fashion for the near future. Just before Covid, they imagined clothes in an antibacterial fabric, moisturizing for the skin and anti-UV. There is also their Swipe handbag, an it-bag inspired by the Apple unlock icon, available each season in different colors and which can be seen as a bonus on the catwalk in solid gold versions , in meteorite or in weightlessness (made of 99% air), marvels of engineering.

This season, he plays the Little Mermaids in recyclable silicone, 3D printed in water using technology developed by the company Rapid Liquid Print. For Nathalie Dufour, director of the Andam prize, “the talent of this pair is to think big. They appropriate technological progress into a modern wardrobe with humor and brilliance.” For princesses of the future, with or without Prince Charming.
