América wasted the chance to get ahead of Red Bull Bragantino in the dispute for a place in the quarterfinals of the Copa Sudamericana. At Independência, Coelho was 1-1 with Massa Bruta on Thursday night (3/8), for the round of 16 first leg, and ended the game with protests from part of the crowd against coach Vagner Mancini.

Commander alviverde climbed América with a ‘cold mix’. Of those considered starters, only Matheus Pasinato, Éder and Juninho started the duel. The defender even scored the own goal for the Paulistas, in the 40th minute of the first half. Mastriani, at 27 of the second, tied the confrontation.

The return match will be next Thursday (10/8), at 9 pm, at the Neo Química Arena, in São Paulo, since the Nabi Abi Chedid stadium, where Bragantino plays its matches, does not have a minimum capacity of 20 thousand people required by CONMEBOL at this stage of the tournament. Whoever wins advances to the next stage. A new tie takes the decision to penalties.

Before that, however, the two teams enter the field for the 18th round of the Brazilian Championship. Coelho visits Bahia on Sunday (6/8), at 6:30 pm, at the Fonte Nova stadium, in Salvador, while Massa Bruta takes on Coritiba on the same day and time, at the Couto Pereira stadium, in Curitiba.

Goal against and protest

América went to the field in a 4-2-3-1, with Lucas Kal and Javier Méndez forming the defensive midfielder duo and Juninho, Breno and Matheusinho in a back-up line. Coelho made, at least, a display equivalent to that of the Paulistas in the initial stage, despite having the ball less time at his feet (40% to 60%).

The alviverde team tried to kick Matheusinho, at 16, and Breno, at 20, but the first stopped at goalkeeper Cleiton and the second passed to the left, with danger. A header from Matheusinho, at 24 minutes, also bothered the visitors, who, on the other hand, came in with a header from Léo Ortiz, and Matheus Fernandes, in a kick from outside the area.

The Americans were superior when, in the 40th minute, Luan Cândido crossed from the left and Éder, with a cart, sent it against his own goal, opening the scoring. At the end of the first half, a good part of the alviverde crowd mocked coach Vagner Mancini.

Renato Marques, who had a poor first half, and Matheusinho gave way to Pedrinho and Rodrigo Varanda at halftime, but Bragantino dominated the start of the second half. Mancini changed again, at 12, to make América more offensive: Martínez and Mastriani came in to replace Breno and Lucas Kal.

The team from São Paulo was still more present in the attack, and Coelho had difficulties in creating when he got the tie. At 27, Rodriguinho crossed from the right and Mastriani headed in the right corner to leave everything the same.

The match continued quite busy, but without new danger bids. Dissatisfied with the results, América fans again protested against Mancini at the end of the match.
