Thirteen days before the opening match of the Copa América, Conmebol was obliged to find an organizing country, after the consecutive withdrawals of Colombia (social unrest in the country) then Argentina (critical health situation in the country). The South American Football Confederation therefore decided on Monday to allocate the organization of this edition of the Copa America to Brazil.

“The 2021 Conmebol Copa America will be played in Brazil. Tournament start and end dates are confirmed“, indicated the South American authority on its Twitter account Monday. It thus confirms that the tournament will take place well from June 13 to July 10, as planned. The opening match will oppose Argentina to Chile, on Sunday the 13th. June at 11 p.m. (French time).
Still on its Twitter account, the Conmebol thanked the President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, for having “opened the doors of this country to what is today the safest sporting event in the world.“Brazil was already the host country for the last Copa América, in 2019. And the Auriverde had won the tournament.
