Copa America in Brazil: Four cities instead of eight

Despite criticism and controversy, the Copa America will take place in Brazil, and not in Colombia and Argentina, as initially planned. To reduce health risks in a country severely affected by Covid (more than 465,000 dead), the Conmebol will organize its tournament in four cities: Brasilia, Cuiabá, Goiânia and Rio de Janeiro.

Twenty-eight matches will take place, without an audience, from June 13 to July 9 to determine Brazil’s successor, crowned at the Maracana, in 2019. “Security will be total, with strict health protocols and in agreement with the health authorities”, tried to reassure Alejandro Dominguez, the president of the South American entity.
