Diaz was in “very good condition and isolated,” Ecuador said on social media. He was the only player on the team to test positive, according to the team.

Ecuador will advance to the quarter-finals if they beat defending champions and Group B leader Brazil on Sunday in Goiania. Brazil are not expected to play with a full squad when they are already guaranteed to finish at the top of the table.

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) said on Friday it had listed 166 cases of COVID-19 at the America’s Cup, among all tests carried out until last Monday.

Most of the cases were from contract workers who had not yet been vaccinated. CONMEBOL said it had no control over why these people had not been vaccinated.
