COP28: Agriculture integrated into climate plans – Paysans de la Loire, agricultural and rural information media

The signatory countries, including France, the United States, Brazil, Indonesia and China, affirm the right to “healthy, sufficient, affordable and nutritious food for all”.

More than 130 countries have signed, on 1is December, the declaration of the Emirati presidency of COP28, which has been held since November 30 in Dubai, on sustainable agriculture, resilient food systems and climate action. The signatory countries, including France, the United States, Brazil, Indonesia and China, affirm the right to “ healthy, sufficient, affordable and nutritious food for all ».

They commit to including agriculture and food systems in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) – which reflect countries’ updated commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement, but also in national plans adaptation, long-term strategies and national biodiversity strategies.

They also promise to “ review or guide public policies and aid » to agriculture to encourage practices that improve income while reducing impacts on the climate and environment. These commitments are made for 2030, but the signatory nations promise to take stock of the progress made next year, at COP29.
